Art is iteration. Everything comes from somewhere, whether it's in the real world or some other piece of media. Everyone gets their inspiration from something else. Nothing we think of has never been thought of before, and that's okay. What matters is what you can do with it.
The same applies for video games. Mango's Fisharium iterates from Digseum. Bug Fables iterates from Paper Mario. Deoxynn iterates from Undertale. But what matters in all of these examples is there are differences between the original and the iteration.
Mango's Fisharium adds a different way to collect exhibit pieces. Bug Fables completely changes the party system into a 3-member system. Deoxynn takes the idea that your choice makes a difference, and adds that controlling yourself makes it better for everyone.
The beautiful part of this system is that no two of these games are made by the same people. People inspire others with their works, and those who are inspired try to build off of the ideas they create. They iterate.
What I'm trying to say in this thread is, don't be afraid to take another person's ideas and mold them into your own. Everything comes from somewhere, and you might have another idea on what can come of someone else's concept.
